Congratulations on purchasing your first bike! You are definitely having the time of your life. 1. Visual Inspection of the Bike’s Battery Once in a Month

It is important to have easy access to your battery. This is often under the bike’s seat. In case you are unsure about the battery placement for your bike, you can check through the instructions manual. When conduction a thorough inspection, it is advised to always remove the battery safely on a surface level. In case you have enough space, you can perform the inspection while still mounted on the bike.

2. Prevent Corrosion by Cleaning Terminals

In case you notice a white and powder substance forming around the terminals, it means that acid is leaking from the battery. It is advised to apply caution when handling acid, you should never touch it without wearing protective gloves. Start by removing the cables and using hydrogen peroxide or baking soda in order to dissolve the acid.

Ensure you scrub ear terminal with a wire brush in order to avoid formation of sediments, debris and other dirt. You can use an old toothbrush to ensure the job is thorough. Lack of maintenance of the battery could lead to break down of performance of your bike. Cleaning is a smart use of the battery especially with an anti-corrosion spray that protects the terminals, cables and bulkhead from further corrosion. 3. Check Terminals to Ensure Connectors are Tight

You can conduct a test at the same time you are cleaning. In case the connectors are loose, it can lead to failure in starting your bike. Most cables are attached by a screw clamp, hence you should ensure that there is enough contact between the battery and the cables. This prevents the bike from having a full charge.

You should also ensure to check the connectors in case of a slide, drop or any other accident to ensure they are tight. When you grease the connectors, it prevents corrosion and discharge from happening thus extending the shelf life of your battery.

Lastly, you should always ensure that your battery is fully charged when you plan to go on long periods of time between your rides.
